“If you hear a voice within you say “you cannot paint” then by all means paint, and the voice will be silenced."
Vincent Van Gogh
Self-doubt is like being imprisoned or wearing a straitjacket. When there is no place for dreams, there is no growth and no joy. Like Vincent Van Gogh said, overcome the voice, take chances and become free. We might not become a great master, but we can have a wonderful time traveling the road, and who knows where it will take us. The sky is the limit, and we likely have more potential, talent and skill than we give ourselves credit for. It doesn’t matter if we were told “you cannot do this”, or “you are not able to…..”. That was just another’s opinion. They don’t know the hidden you, so feel free to express yourself.
A great example of self-doubt and how one can achieve great things with encouragement, focus and a dream is Ben Carson, Sr., a neurosurgeon and the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. When I watched the movie “Gifted Hands” and observed his low self-esteem in his younger years and how he developed into this incredible doctor and man, it is very clear that we can overcome anything, as long as we want it and focus on it.
Trust in oneself is one of the biggest gifts we can give ourselves. One little step at a time is all it takes.
